A stock of ‘babul’ – a mix used with betel as a chew – valued at nearly 2 million rupees has been recovered from Wolfendhal Street..
The Wolfendhal Police made the recovery by raiding a luxury house at Ambagaha Junction and a warehouse in Colombo 12. A suspect is in custody. The suspect led the police to a place in Wellampitiya where local ganja was allegedly mixed with the imported ‘babul’ before repacking for sale. The recent proliferation of this addictive chew had prompted the authorities to come down hard on the sale of such items. This raid was one among several to rid the city of narcotics and other drugs.
