Vice Chancellors and the University Academic staff have taken the lead in protesting against the attack of the Vice Chancellor of the Ruhuna University.
A student group had attacked the Vice Chancellor Prof. Susirith Mendis and two lecturers. The Vice Chancellor sustained injuries. The University Vice Chancellors and Directors Committee of Sri Lanka said it was disdainful for extremist political parties to manipulate undergraduates to achieve their parochial aims. They have condemned the incident in a statement. In the meantime the lecturers of the Medical Faculty of the University have deplored the incident and staged a token strike.
