Comprehensive inquiries are afoot in search of the students who attacked the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the Ruhuna University.
The Vice Chancellor Prof. Susirith Mendis came under attack when he attempted to mediate in a clash between two student groups of the University last morning. He had to be hospitalized for treatment. Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake pointed out that he had information that the attack was carried out by a group of undergraduates having links with the JVP. The Police said they are in search of the suspects.
In the meantime, addressing the Cabinet news briefing, Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that the Government had decided to initiate optimum action to maintain discipline within the University network.
