The government is launching a programme of road development covering all electorates.
The cabinet has decided to obtain 500 million US dollars from the Chinese Development Bank in this connection. 1174 kilo metres of roads will be developed under the programme connecting the network of all main roads.
Aid worth 150 million dollars will be obtained from the Asian Development Bank for the development projects to be launched in war ravaged areas. Projects on road development, electricity, drinking water, and construction of court complexes will be commenced under the programme. The facilities available in school dental clinics will be increased at the expenditure of 118 million rupees. There are 473 dental clinics in schools.
A special parliamentary draft bill is being prepared in to facilitate construction of a National Police Training School. The aim is to provide expertise in the fields of law and public relations, required by the Police. The government is considering the manufacture of footwear required by the armed forces locally. The cabinet has approved the programme to be carried out with assistance from the private sector. Measures are being taken to re-launch the rural livelihood and community organizations in the Kilinochchi District. Korea has agreed to provide aid worth 5 million US dollars in his connection. Programmes will also be launched to increase employment and productivity in the North and East. The United Nations Industrial Development Organization will provide aid worth 8 million US dollars in this connection.
