President Rajapaksa has said that Pirivena education will be upgraded granting all modern facilities. He assured to provide a Computer Unit with internet facilities to every Pirivena Educational Institute.
The President gave this assurance at a special discussion on improving Pirivena education. The President said the programme to improve Pirivena education will be mooted in parallel to the 2600th Sambuddha Jayanthi.
It was revealed at the discussion that there is a dearth of teachers for Pirivena Educational Institutes. The President gave instructions to officials to recruit qualified monks next year to overcome the shortage. He was of the view that this would ensure the protection of the Vihare as well as the village. It was also his view that there should be a time frame as a solution to the delay in the printing of Pirivena educational text books. If action was initiated to provide the text books before the end of May next year, the President pointed out that it would be possible to implement the programme sans a delay from 2012. It was bared that the funds allocated for Pirivenas were not being properly channeled via the Provincial Councils. To overcome this issue, the President advised officials to extend the funds directly through the Line Ministry. Members of the Maha Sangha, Parliamentarians and Ministry officials were among those present at this discussion.
