An 18-year-old college freshman has died after he collapsed while running on a high school track in Anderson.
Multiple media outlets reported 18-year-old Joseph Shank of Anderson collapsed Wednesday night on the Westside High School track. He was taken to AnMed Health Medical Center and was pronounced dead.
A sheriff's report says three women who arrived at the track say they saw Shank run one lap around the track before he collapsed.
Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown says Shanks had no history of medical problems that should have caused his death. McCown said an autopsy Thursday was inconclusive. He says there is no evidence of foul play.
McCown says family members told him the Tri-County Technical College freshman went to the track occasionally to run.
