The Ministry of Finance has said that four billion rupees has been allocated for the fertilizer subsidy during the first few months of this year.
The State Monetary report of the Finance Ministry indicates that during the first five months of this year 4317 million rupees has been allocated in this connection. A fifty kilogram bag of Urea was provided for the farmers at a subsidized rate of 350 rupees. A 50 kilogram bag of fertilizer was offered to tea cultivators at a subsidized price of 1000 rupees. During 2009 the Government incurred an expenditure of about 17.6 billion rupees in the granting of fertilizer subsidy. The report further says that a similar amount will have to be spent at the end of the year for the fertilizer subsidy.
