Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris has emphasised that there is no room for a recurrence of violence. He said the latest tactic of the LTTE is to attack Sri Lanka’s economy.
The Minister was delivering the keynote address at the 1st Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry Dialogue at the International Institute of Strategic Studies in London. It was organized under the patronage of the Minister. The External Affairs Minister said that the latest ruse of the LTTE loyalists was to deter the arrival of foreign investors and tourists to Sri Lanka and deprive the island of Western markets for local products.
The Minister underlined the need for the intellectual fraternity domiciled in other countries to be vigilant on such false and baseless allegations. The Minister also had bilateral discussions with many British VIPs. The Minister conversed with British Foreign Secretary William Hague, Defence Secretary Dr. Liam Fox, General Secretary of the Commonwealth Office Kamalesh Sharma and Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner in Britain Nihal Jayasinghe were associated in these discussions.
