There is an increase in international call traffic to Sri Lanka.
Director General of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission Anusha Pelpita attributed this improvement to the reduction of Government taxes levied on international calls by 0.02 Dollars on phone operators. He said the increaser has been 30 per cent. He said the price margin between calls taken through Voice over Internet Protocol and phone networks have declined due to this measure.
Mr. Pelpita added that measures will be adopted so that internet providers will register connections providing more than 1mbps bandwidth, which will enable the TRC to curb illegal use of Voice over Internet Protocol calls in certain types of networks. He however added that internet users using ADSL connections will not be affected by the future registration measures.
