The Association of Private Bus Owners has decided not to provide buses for anti-government protests.
The President of the Private Bus Owners Association Gemunu Wijeratne said that the students are pursuing their education through the tax payers’ money. During the past few days there were several protests. A vice Chancellor was also assaulted. He noted that these are serious issues. He said that they have informed the bus owners in the areas near universities to obtain a written letter from the students mentioning the purpose for which the bus will be used in case a bus is to be hired by them. He said that they are against their buses being used for any protests.
He expressed this view at the Annual Gneral Meeting of the Lanka Private Bus Owners Association. Representatives of bus associations covering all provinces participated in the AGM. Office bearers of the Association were elected. Parliamentarian Thilanga Sumathipala also participated in the occasion.
