The people of the South East Asian countries are facing many health hazards due to the usage of low quality mobile phone batteries.
Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena has said that many of the batteries in the market have a lifetime of less than one year and are discarded quickly. Recent findings have proved that one such battery could pollute 37,000 litres of water. Addressing a ‘Summit on Health issues due to Climatic changes’, the Minister said that consumption of the polluted water could result in cancers, Skin diseases and other diseases caused by radiation while the region would also face issues related to clean water. The Minister has emphasized the importance of introducing regulations against the use, sale and the import of such low quality Mobile phone batteries
