Sri Lanka Transport Board and Private Bus Owners Association are to operate buses under a joint time table from next year.
President of Lanka Private Bus Owners Association Gemunu Wijeratne said at a news conference that they had decided to request the government to incorporate it in the budget proposals for 2011 as the Cabinet had approved it already. Mr. Wijeratne explained that the private bus owners would be involved in administration as well in addition to joint plying according to merged time tables. The Association had also decided not to hire buses for any political party for any purpose such as protests. It had been decided to demand a written assurance from any party which wanted to hire buses that the vehicles would not be used for any political purpose.
