External Affairs Ministry officials were discussing options available to save the life of Sri Lankan maid Rizana Nafeek whose death sentence was endorsed by the Supreme Court in Riyadh.
An External Ministry official told the Daily News that the Supreme Court in Riyadh has endorsed the death sentence imposed on her by the Dawadami High Court for killing a Saudi infant in 2005.
She said that it was the most superior court in the country and there is no other possibility of appealing against that judgment. She said however there were other options that can be taken at diplomatic level and the officials were discussing to decide as to what measures should be taken in this connection. A three-member panel of Judges from the Dawadami High Court headed by Chief Justice Abdullah Al-Rosaimi found Nafeek guilty of murdering the four-month-old son of Naif Jiziyan Khalaf Al-Otaibi and sentenced her to death on June 16, 2007.
