President Rajapakse has told the Vice Chancellors that a common disciplinary network was vital for all Universities. The law of the country was common within universities.
The President was addressing Vice Chancellors of all universities at Temple Trees yesterday. Special attention was drawn to the crisis situation which has surfaced within the University network. The Vice Chancellors told the President that shortcomings in relation to discipline prevailed within Universities. Undergraduates were behaving in an unruly manner due to persuasion by a handful. They pointed out that if a programme to rehabilitate those who are sabotaging the university network after identification could be unveiled, it will lead to the betterment of the Universities.
The meeting drew attention to a strategy to personally apprise the parents of the related students on the illegal and anti disciplinary activities they are pursuing. The President said that the onus of the Government is to direct the University students who are to take over the future of the country, towards the correct path. He pointed out that it is also the obligation of the academic and non academic staff as well as the parents to work towards the educational targets by liberating them from external forces. The President pointed out that the anticipation of the universities students should be to mete out the responsibilities towards the country, society and their parents.
Minister S.B. Dissanayake opined that Vice Chancellors, University lecturers, the Non Academic staff, parents and children should make a concerted effort to maintain a conducive University and higher education network within the country.
