A man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to killing a homeless woman in Charleston last year.
Sixty-one-year-old Jimmy Nehiley pleaded guilty Monday in the strangulation death of 53-year-old Janice Case in May 2009.
Police say Nehiley admitted he killed the woman when officers confronted him, showing them her blood on his pants and shoes.
Multiple media outlets reported that Circuit Judge Roger Young imposed the minimum sentence for murder, citing Nehiley's cooperation and remorse.
Nehiley says he and his friend were both intoxicated when he killed her. He said he remembered only bits and pieces of what happened that day. He says he had known Case for about six years.
