Health professionals of Sri Lanka have earned world acclamation. Plans are underway to establish a Centre to train health professionals of the entire South East Asian region.
Health Ministers of the South East Asian Region made this request during a meeting with Minister Maithiripala Sirisena. The Minister was in Bangladesh to participate in an International Conference on climate change and Health of the World Health Organisation. The eleven ministers representing Southeast Asia expressed their agreement to the setting up of the training centre. Their request was to afford an opportunity to train doctors, nurses and paramedics in Sri Lanka. This is mainly because of the efficiency displayed by local health professionals in controlling epidemic diseases.
