Road barriers in Colombo are being dismantled with the prevalence of a peaceful situation in the City.
Road barriers were put up not only in the North and the East but also in the South as a result of terrorism which plagued the country for about 30 years. The Security Forces had to be on alert for 24 hours of the day as a result. Road blocks were set up at several locations within Colombo, Sri Lanka’s economic hub, mainly to ensure the security of the dwellers and also vital economic installations. The fear psychosis has already eroded from the minds of the people. Accordingly Police Media Spokesman SP Preshantha Jayakody said that all check points in the Colombo City were being dismantled from today and instead being replaced by an advanced surveillance system to ensure the security of the City.
The Police Media Spokesman said barriers were located at certain places within the city. He said the results achieved through this process are minimum as criminals are aware of the locations. Therefore they make every effort to evade such barriers. As such they planned to put into effect a new system instead of these barriers. He said that sudden road blocks will be established when necessary to ensure the security of the city. He added that this process is being carried out taking into consideration the peaceful environment prevailing within the city.
