A stinking odor that fouled Columbias air this week has been traced to former City Councilman Kirkman Finlays farmland in lower Richland County, state regulators said.
Finlay was not available for comment Wednesday night. But before regulators released their findings, Steve Fooshe, a spokesman for the one-time mayoral candidate, said Finlay was not to blame.
Folks in Columbia again today reported smelling a foul smell in downtown Columbia and beyond.
The rotten odor first wafted through downtown Columbia on Tuesday, leading public officials on a wild goose chase to find the source and giving city residents comic material.
Reports of the odor drifted in from Hampton Farms off Garners Ferry Road, the Vista, Five Points and near Williams-Brice Stadium on Tuesday.
