Tax Commission report submitted to President

The Tax Commission appointed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa last year has recommended measures to simplify the tax procedure in Sri Lanka in its report submitted to the President at Temple Trees on Tuesday said a press release by the President’s Media Division.
The Commission has prepared the report after a careful study of the local Tax structure and affiliated organisations and institutions and their structures for a period of one year and two months. The commission in its report has also recommended measures to minimise the complex problems faced by tax payers and simplify the administrative structure of organisations and institutions connected to the subject of Taxes.
The Commission which has submitted its observations in the reduction of tax income relative to the GNP has also recommended measures to increase this income in future as well as measure to use information technology to make the levying and payment of taxes much easier.
The Commission report was handed over to the President by its Chairman Prof. W D Lakshman.
