An Inter-Agency Advisory Group to facilitate the early implementation of the interim recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission will be set up.
It will be set up based on a proposal submitted to the Cabinet by Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris. An Interim Report of the Commission was recently handed over to the President. The Government is already implementing its recommendations. The Government is already in the process of reducing the number of High Security Zones. Initiatives are already in place to vest lands of the North and East in the proper owners and also allocate some for socio development activities.
Of the 11,692 LTTE cadres who surrendered to the Security Forces, 5120 had been rehabilitated and reintegrated into society. The Government has drawn its attention to consolidate the language right of all citizens based on the facts that have been identified. Accordingly Cabinet nod was received to appoint the Inter Advisory Committee to facilitate the early implementation of the interim recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission.
