The government is to implement self-employment projects for the war widows in the North and East Provinces.
Deputy Child Development and Women’s Affairs Minister M.L.A.M. Hisbullah has said the projects would be launched with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNDFW).
According to Hisbullah, the government had already signed an agreement with the Indian government in this regard and the widows in the Batticaloa District would be trained in self-employment projects.
He has reportedly said that the agreement with UNDFW focuses mainly on the self-employment projects for widows in the Northern Province.
