Roadwork to disrupt travel on Blue Ridge Parkway
Oct 28, 2010 8:19:00 PM - thestate.com
Heading to the Blue Ridge Parkway next week? Be aware of roadwork that begins Monday along two stretches.
Crews will rebuild pavement in Sherrill Cove Tunnel at Milepost 466 and Rattlesnake Mountain Tunnel at Milepost 465 beginning at 8 a.m. Monday.
The tunnels will be reduced to a single lane through next Friday, and flagmen will be on hand to alert motorists.
To continue stabilization work to prevent slides, parkway officials will also again close the section between Pine Mountain Tunnel at Milepost 399 and N.C. 151 at Milepost 405.
That closure will also begin at 8 a.m. Monday. The work will require a complete closure to all public traffic. Because of dangerous conditions in the work zone, foot, bicycle and other traffic will be prohibited until the area is reopened by early spring 2011.
