The 2nd suspect in the HiCorp financial fraud case pleads guilty. He is sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment.
Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka, his son-in-lw Danuna Tilakaratne and Director of HiCorp Pvt. Ltd. Wellington De Hoedt were accused of defrauding the Army by purchasing military hardware going beyond the tender procedure. When the case was taken up today, the second accused Wellington De Hoedt pleaded guilty and confessed 12 of the 20 charges brought up against him by the Attorney General. Accordingly High Court Judge Sunil Rajapaksa sentenced him to five years rigorous imprisonment. Although warrants were issued on several instances for the arrest of the first suspect Danuna Tilakaratne, he had not yet been apprehended. Interpol assistance was also solicited for his apprehension.
