A fund is being launched for the maintenance and promotion of Buddhism. Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne said the fund will be utilized to solve issues prevailing in other temples as well.
The Prime Minister said that more than 10 million lands have been offered for the Buddha Sasana. It is expected to use the annual income of these lands for the promotion of Buddhism. He said that a Committee will be setup to plan expenditure while the Government will also be making a contribution from its revenue. The Prime Minister opined that these funds will be loaned to the Government with an interest.
The Prime Minister was speaking at a function at the Kalutara District Secretariat. It was organized by the Buddhist Affairs Department under the programme of developing all Religious places and Spiritual uplift. The Prime Minister participated in a function held at the Sri Kadira Velayuda Kovil in Kalutara.
