President attends Expo Summit, Holds bilateral talks with Nepalese President

The Shanghai Expo Summit Forum was held in China on a grand scale with the participation of world leaders including President Rajapaksa. The first session was held this morning with the participation of invited guests, including the Sri Lankan leader. Thereafter the President had discussions with his Nepalese counterpart Ram Badan Yadev

Reporting from Shanghai our special representative Sudharman Radaliyagoda said that today was a significant day for Sri Lanka as well as for the Sri Lankan President. This morning, the President participated in the Expo Summit Thereafter the President met his Nepalese counterpart for bilateral discussions. The Nepalese President made a special call from the President to mediate in sorting out the political dispute in his country. Earlier too, the Sri Lanka President made a significant contribution in sorting out the political crisis in Nepal.

The talks also dealt on further strengthening bilateral and trade ties. The Nepalese President requested his Sri Lankan counterpart to further strengthen religious cooperation between the two countries.. The President, when he was a young MP made a proposal to Parliament to reconstruct the Lumbini in Nepal. The President is now upbeat that he had been able to put his proposal into action. The President gave a firm assurance to make a vital contribution for the reconstruction process. The President is slated to have an important discussion this afternoon. He will be meeting the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao which would help further solidify the bilateral ties.
