Sixty one Sri Lankan migrants who were prepared to flee to other countries via Thailand have been arrested.
This is the second groups of Sri Lankan migrants to be arrested in Thailand. More than 100 Sri Lankans who were to flee to Canada with assistance from LTTE supporters were arrested on Friday. The Thai authorities said that they were arrested due to the expiry of their visas, lack of legal documents and entering Thailand without valid documents. Thailand has been used by groups of LTTE supporters who flee to western countries. This fact was established by the arrival of a group of more than 400 asylum seekers in Canada by the Sun Sea vessel. The Thai authorities have said that all necessary measures will be taken to stop these attempts of the LTTE supporters.
