The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has today (1) rejected bail for 21 university students who were arrested on October 14 at the Higher Education Ministry.
The students were arrested when they forcibly entered into the university premises and had allegedly caused damages to public property.
The Colombo Magistrate’s Court had rejected bail for the 21 university students stating the Magistrate’s Court did not possess the power to grant bail and further remanded the students till November 12.
The lawyers representing the students have now submitted a petition to the Colombo High Court seeking bail.
The petition is to be taken up by the High Court on Wednesday (3).
Meanwhile, university students are continuing with their protest campaigns against the arrest of students with several protests organized for today (1) and tomorrow (2).
