The Trade Ministry has announced a reduction in import duties of several commodities to grant relief to consumers.
Giving views to Prime TV, Trade Secretary Anura Siriwardena said that the Government had reduced the import duty of several commodities to grant extensive relief to the consumer. Accordingly the import duty of a kilogram of Big Onions had been reduced from 25 to 10 rupees, while the import duty of Potatoes had been reduced from 30 to 10 rupees. He further said that the duty on Coconut Oil has been brought down from 60 to 15 rupees while the duty on Palm Oil has come from 55 to 10 rupees. Accordingly the reduction of import duty on Coconut Oil and Palm Oil is 45 rupees. Mr. Siriwardena said that the Finance Ministry has taken this decision on the President’s instructions with the aim of granting maximum relief to the consumer.
