Targeted at showcasing to the world innovation of the industrial revolution, the Exhibition was held in many countries once in several years targeting various development themes. The Exhibition in Japan earlier attracted large crowds. It was held in 1970. The visitors totaled 74 million. This year’s theme was “A Better Life, a Better City.” The Exhibition is being organized once in five years and it has so far been held on 41 occasions.
The next EXPO Exhibition is slated for Milan in Italy in 2015. President Rajapaks was a Special Guest at last night’s closing ceremony of EXPO 2010 in Shanghai. Leaders from more than 20 countries including Nepal, Finland, Bahamas, Hungary and Timor in addition to Sri Lanka joined in the closing event. UN Secretary General Ban ki Moon was also a participant.
