Today, Mayor Stephen Benjamin and representatives from the Babcock Center held a press conference to unveil the 2010 Babcock Christmas Ornament.
This year's ornament is the University of South Carolina baseball diamond, in honor of the USC Gamecock Baseball teams historic 2010 NCAA Championship title.
"I am asking everyone who wants to commemorate that victory to join me in purchasing one of these beautiful ornaments," Mayor Benjamin said. "Not just because it will forever remind you of that moment where our dreams came true, but also because every one sold brings us one step closer to realizing the hopes a dreams of so many living with disabilities in Columbia and throughout the Midlands Region."
Head Coach Ray Tanner has been with the Gamecocks for 14 seasons and led the team to the College World Series four times. Also under Tanner's leadership, the Gamecocks won the 2000 and 2002 SEC season championships, the 2004 SEC Tournament Championship, and four SEC East titles.
The Gamecocks finished the 2010 season with a record of 54-16 and a conference record of 21-9. Because of the teams remarkable success, Babcock saw it appropriate to commemorate this holiday season with a token that will bring joy to USC fans and benefit individuals with disabilities who receive services from the Babcock Center.
