Terrorism is terrorism, in whatever part of the world it is operative. This was first emphasized by Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa. This statement has now been reiterated by the White House.
The US has also expressed its appreciation on the rehabilitation programme of child soldiers carried out by the Government. A release by the White House referred to the conscription of the child soldiers by the LTTE. The White House strongly condemned it.. The United States appreciated the success of the programme of rehabilitating child soldiers in Sri Lanka. The US issued an official warning to countries such as Chad, Congo, Sudan and Yemen where child soldiers are used to propagate terrorism.
The US points out that abolition of children’s rights cannot be condoned in any way. The White House said the US is facing terrorist threats despite being the most powerful country in the world. The release emphasised that Sri Lanka has set an example before the world by eliminating terrorism.
The White House stated that Sri Lanka had achieved success not only in the programme of the rehabilitation of child soldiers but also in the development programme. People of all ages are living comfortably in Sri Lanka. It noted that there is a necessity to eliminate terrorism in order to establish peace throughout the world.
