One of the Midlands largest manufacturers is strengthening its roots in Orangeburg County.
Husqvarna North America will invest $105 million over the next 13 years to expand its plant, which makes chainsaws and lawn and garden equipment, according to an announcement from the S.C. Department of Commerce.
A company spokeswoman said the company is unsure if the expansion will create any new jobs. The plant employs more than 1,700.
The plant, which has been in operation since 1997, already is adding equipment that will allow it to make more products, including the companys new zero-turn-radius lawn mowers. The first expansion, worth $30 million, is expected to be complete in about three years.
The second phase of the expansion, worth $75 million, will take until the end of 2024.
