Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne has emphasized that the country cannot be developed until religious and cast differences prevailed. He was concerned that certain groups which cannot appreciate development were working for the achievement of narrow political gains.
The Prime Minister said that the aspirations of making Sri Lanka the Asia’s Miracle can be met by creating an environment in which no one will depend on each other. It could be met only when an economically independent society is established. A programme that will establish a just and spiritual society will be launched during the Sambudha Society. The Prime Minister added that if they organize themselves and unite the four religious and the five communities in the country, it is only then that the country can become prosperous.
The Prime Minister was addressing the Gampaha District programme organized in a series of religious and spiritual development ceremonies. The meeting of Buddhist religious leaders of the Gampaha District took place at the Ravindra Pirivena in Gampaha. He met the Christian leaders at the Gampaha Divisional Secretariat while meeting between the Hindu and Islamic religious leaders took place at the Gampaha District Secretariat. The Prime Minister met the Gampaha District state officials also at the Gampaha District Secretariat.
