Sri Lanka will field 104 competitors

Sri Lanka will field a huge contingent 104 competitors for the forthcoming XVI Asian Games in Guangzhou, China from November 12 to 27. Golfer Mithun Perera will be the overall captain of the Sri Lanka contingent. The contingent also consist of a Chef-de-Mission, seven managers, 22 coaches, 9 officials and 1 lady chaperon making the full contingent to 143.
Lankans will compete in 22 disciplines with athletes taking the top spot with 15 men. Men’s teams will compete in 21 disciplines while the women will be seen in action in ten disciplines according to Chef-de-Mission Prema Pinnawala.
Addressing the competitors he said that Sri Lanka and China have very close ties and it was the main reason to send a large team of sportsmen and women for this mega event in the Asian region. The sportsmen who wear the colors of Sri Lanka and going under the Lion flag should achieve their best to bring glory to the country. This is the biggest opportunity for our sportsmen and women to prove their talents at the Asian level which is also the stepping stone to go for the higher level.
