The UNICEF has handed over aid worth 30 million rupees to educate people about the land mine risk.
The aim of the Government is to create a land mine threat free Sri Lanka by 2020. A programme has been launched in collaboration with several organizations in this connection. The 30 million rupee donation from UNICEF includes four Toyota Land cruisers, six motorbikes and a range of multimedia equipment including laptop computers, printers, scanners and fax machines. Ministers Basil Rajapaksa, Douglas Devananda , Rishath Bathiudeen and Resident Representative of UNICEF Desiree Johnsma were amongst those who participated in the occasion.
