Several amendments are to be introduced in the Employees Trust Fund Act to increase employee welfare.
The Chairman of the Employees Trust Fund Board K.M.A. Godawatta said that a member of the Labour Department should be appointed to the Board of Directors in his official capacity. If an employee changes his service in every five years he has the right to withdraw the finds. This prevents the members from obtaining benefits. Therefore they propose to extend this period up to ten years. He said that the punishment meted out to the employers who did not produce half yearly reports is a fine of 1000 rupees. He proposed to increase it to 10 thousand rupees and to award a sentence of six months imprisonment.
