A Kershaw County sheriff's deputy is facing a federal charge for the beating of an inmate in a county jail.
U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles said Tuesday 51-year-old Oddie Tribble Jr. had been indicted by a federal grand jury for one count of excessive force.
Tribble was fired from the Kershaw County Sheriff's Department in August after video surfaced of a deputy beating a handcuffed inmate dozens of times with a baton.
Authorities said one of inmate Charles Shelley's legs was broken in the attack.
Nettles says Tribble could face up to 10 years in prison and $250,000 in fines. Court records did not show if he had an attorney or when he would appear in court.
