A Charlotte developer told city officials about plans to build a 22-story to 28-story tower in the Vista that would feature about 600 apartments and retail space geared toward college students.
The $80 million to $100 million tower, to be located on Blossom Street near Colonial Life Arena would be the second tallest building in the state if built.
Plans are scheduled to be presented before the city of Columbia?s building design commission on Tuesday.
It is slated for a parking lot just west of Lincoln Street on land USC leases from the city of Columbia. It would be across Blossom Street from USC?s Greek Village.
Although not a USC project, the tower would likely be seen as a boost for USC?s struggling Innovista research campus.
The campus has been billed as a, ?innovation district? including private residential, retail and commercial development as well as school buildings -- a place where students, researcher and private high-tech worker can ?live, work and play.?
