A Greenville County sheriff's deputy has been shot in both arms during a gambling raid.
Lt. Shea Smith says Deputy Matthew May was struck in the wrist while using a battering ram to strike the front door of a home in eastern Greenville County. He says May was treated at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Smith says deputies returned fire and shot a man inside the house in the arm. He says 72-year-old Aaron Awtry was taken to a hospital and is believed to have been the person who shot May.
Authorities also seized two poker machines, thousands in cash and nearly four grams of cocaine.
A dozen people inside the home were ticketed for unlawful betting. Smith says the four deputies who fired into the house are on leave while state police investigate.
