The Northern polity is also accorded many privileges under the Mahinda Chinthana. The Sangupiddy Bridge, which enhances the aspirations of these civilians, is under construction speedily.
Construction work on the bridge was launched in March last year. With the completion of the work on the bridge, it would be possible to reach Jaffna from Mannar on the A-32 Highway within a short span of time. The bridge is 288 metres long and its width is 7.4 metres. The total expenditure will be 1023 million rupees. Construction work is being handled by a firm of local contractors under the guidance of the Highways Ministry. A group including Deputy Minister Nirmala Kotalawala undertook an inspection tour on the instructions of the President. Accordingly the Deputy Minister instructed the officials concerned to complete the work before the end of next year.
