Minister S.B. Dissanayake has said that the Government has not intention of destroying the future of the students when meting out punishment.
The Minister said the students will be punished only after holding inquiries at the University level. Punishment is not meant to destroy them. However he said that discipline should be maintained in universities. The students should be of a high calibre visiting the library, participating in English classes and consulting the lecturers when penning tutorials. The Minister noted that in President’s words, a ‘universal child’ who looks at the world ‘above the horizon’ has to be created. He added that the University network was being re-organised to achieve this goal.
