Narcotics raids successful

Inspector General of Police Mahinda Balasuriya claims that the drug raids are a success. He pointed out that the crackdown will be continued until the narcotics menace is totally eliminated from the country.

The IGP said the narcotics menace is their next challenge. It is their responsibility to eliminate it. He agreed that it was not a one hundred percent success. But he emphasized that they have achieved considerable progress. The Police Chief pointed out that they will continue these raids in its initiative to curb the spread of drugs and drug abuse in the country.

The Police Chief was addressing the media in Colombo today with regard to progress achieved on the narcotic raids conducted so far. 1608 kilograms of narcotics, including Four kilograms of heroin, 7448 kilograms of cannabis and 1680 kilograms of babul were recovered by the Police. 11 thousand 623 narcotic related cases have been filed in the High Court. 260 suspects have been arrested.
