The visiting German Parliamentary delegation has commended the Government’s accelerated programme of uplifting the livelihoods in the North and the East.
The German deputation called on President Rajapaksa at the President’s Office. The six member, German team is headed by Parliamentarian Petra Ernstberger. They had cordial discussions with the President on various issues including the development projects launched in the North and East. They expressed their gratitude to the President for facilitating them to visit the North and East. The President told them that his next target after the victory over terrorism was to surmount the development challenges. He said he believes that development could not be achieved sans peace.
The visiting delegation appreciated the accelerated development and rehabilitation that was taking place in the North and the East. They said they were highly satisfied with the progress achieved. Discussions also centred on strengthening ties between Sri Lanka and Germany. Minister Prof. G L Peries, Secretary to President Lalith Weeratunge and Foreign Secretary Romesh Jayasingha were present at this discussion.
