Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the European Union Ravinatha Ariyasinghe has said that the world should have an awareness of opportunities available to the world from the re-awakening Sri Lanka. Mr. Ariyasinghe was delivering the Olcott Memorial Oration at Ananda College Hall in Colombo.
Mr. Ariyanatha pointed out that based on the needs of Non Governmental Organisations and LTTE loyal groups certain countries and organizations were still attempting to impress upon Sri Lanka. However, some countries have to change their stance and making new collaborations with Sri Lanka. It is clearly witnessed in the economic as well as defence cooperation. The important factor is that certain Western nations due to narrow decisions taken by them to appease their voters, they are not only losing their long time bonds with Sri Lanka, but were also being deprived of the new future opportunities that are being made available through the development process. Under these circumstances, the time has come for the Western nations to reconsider how they should maintain their strategies with Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan Ambassador said it is opportune that the Western nations now consider how they should rebuild ties with Sri Lanka respectfully and productively at this juncture when the President would be entering his second term of office with a majority of two thirds in the Legislature.
