43rd Commemoration of D.A. Rajapaksa in Tangalla

Today is the 43rd commemoration of Sri Lanka Freedom Party founder, the late D.A. Rajapaksa.

Born in November 1905, Mr. Rajapaksa was elected to the Second State Council in the 1945 by-election. He thereafter engaged in the noble task leading the people of Ruhuna after the demise of his brother D.M. Rajapaksa. He entered Parliament in 1947 from the Beliatta electorate. He was able to render yeoman service on behalf of the agricultural and irrigation sectors as a leader who was able to identify the pulse of the people of the Giruwapattuwa D.A. Rajapaksa is a founder member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party/ His eldest son Chamal Rajapaksa in the Speaker of Parliament, while his third son Mahinda Rajapaksa is the First Citizen of Sri Lanka.

The D.A. Rajapaksa commemoration ceremony was held in Tangalla today under the patronage of President Rajapaksa. The commemoration commenced with offering of floral tributes to the D.A. Rajapaksa statue in the Tangalla town by the President, First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa and family members including Chamal Rajapaksa and Namal Rajapaksa. Parliamentarians, family well wishers also joined on the occasion. Pirith Chanting was held last night at the Medamulana residence last night. Alms were offered to the Maha Sangha this afternoon. The Annual Memorial Oration is scheduled to be made at Temple Trees on the 25th of this month.
