The 21 students who forcibly entered the Ministry of Higher Education have been granted bail under strict conditions.
The students were released on a personal bail of 25,000 rupees each. They have been prohibited from engaging in political activities. The Court warned that they will be re-arrested in case of complaints that they took part in political activities or protests.
Addressing the students after granting bail High Court Judge Deepali Wijesundara said they were meant to obtain the degree and not to engage in protests. The judge told them to complete their studies first and then venture into politics if they wish to do so. She said that a small group is attempting to gain political mileage by betraying other students through these activities and other students should exercise caution.
