The train services between Colombo and Batticaloa have resumed. The rail track and an engine had been damaged due to a derailment in the Palugasdamana area. The track has been restored and the train services have resumed since this morning.
Commercial Superintendent of Railways Vijaya Samarasinghe said the derailment is being probed. He said that trains did not operate on the Batticaloa and Trincomalee tracks last night while the night mail trains from Trincomalee and Batticaloa to Colombo Fort also did not arrive due to a derailment of the engine near the Palugasdamana station. However the track has been restored and the train services resumed.
