The Sri Lanka Army and the Wildlife Conservation Officers yesterday launched a three day program to drive away a herd of wild elephants roaming in villages in Nettchikulam in Omantha, Vavuniya Range Forest Officer W.J.K. Herath said.
He said that this was the first time that the army was involved in such a program and the aim of it was to protect the newly settled villagers from the threat of wild elephants. An electric fence would be erected after chasing the elephants to Nedunkeni jungles, Herath said.
