S.C. Republican Party chairman Karen Floyd will not seek a second term, according to Republican sources.
Floyd has called an afternoon press conference.
During Floyds two-year term Republicans captured all nine statewide constitutional offices, won a Congressional seat held by Democrats for two decades and built the largest Republican majority in the history of the S.C. House of Representatives. But Floyds has been criticized by some activists for the partys spending and use of consultants. An agreement with state tea party groups quickly went sour earlier this year when they accused the state party of attempting to co-opt their movement for political gain. A group of party activists recently accused S.C. GOP employees of eavesdropping on conference call.
The race to follow Floyd could have ramifications on South Carolinas first-in-the-South 2012 presidential primary. A number of people said they were interested in running for the position, but declined to do so publicly.
