Commercial Superintendent of Railways Wijaya Samarasinghe has said that delays could take place in the train services.
He said that certain stretches on main railway lines including the upcountry and the coastal line are under water. The Engineers in the maintenance division are attempting to remove the obstacles. He said that areas such as Ragama have gone under water. However the Railway Department is attempting to continue the services despite the delays. Attempts are being made to clear water from the tracks under the instruction of Transport Minister Kumara Welgama and the General Manager of Railways L.T. Mahanama. He said that the services will resume after the work will be completed.
